صلى بحرفٍ مِنْ رغيفٍ كذا

صلى بحرفٍ مِنْ رغيفٍ كذا

مَنْ يعبدُ اللهَ على حرفِ

مَنْ يعبدُ اللهَ على حرفِ

He prayed for a crust of a loaf—thus does

He prayed with a letter from a loaf, thus

one who worships God upon an edge.

Whoever worships God on one letter

وكفهم بالوعظِ لكنْ جبى

وكفهم بالوعظِ لكنْ جبى

فأكلُهُمْ بالخمسِ والكفِّ

فأكلُهُمْ بالخمسِ والكفِّ

And he restrained them with preaching, yet collected money;

And preached to them, but he took

so his devouring of them was with five fingers and the palm.

So he ate their fifth and palm

فاقتربتْ آخرُ صادٍ لهُ

فاقتربتْ آخرُ صادٍ لهُ

إذْ لمْ يكنْ منْ أولِ الصفِّ

إذْ لمْ يكنْ منْ أولِ الصفِّ

So the closing words of Ṣād drew near to him,

So the last nail approached him

since he was not of the opening of al-Ṣaff.
