جاءَنا ملتثماً مكتتماً

فدعوناهُ لأكلٍ وعَجْبنا

He came to us with his face veiled, concealing himself.

He came to us veiled and silent

So we invited him to eat, and marveled.

So we invited him to eat and were amazed

مدَّ في السفرةِ كفاً ترفاً

مدَّ في السفرةِ كفاً ترفاً

فحسبنا أنَّ في السفرةِ جُبنا

فحسبنا أنَّ في السفرةِ جُبنا

He stretched out a delicate hand over the dining spread.

He extended to the tablecloth a delicate hand

So we thought there was cheese in the dining spread.

And we thought there was cheese on the table
