البيضُfair-skinned women مثلُlike الثلجsnow باردةٌcold
البيضُ مثلُ الثلج باردةٌ
والسمرُand dark-skinned women مثلُlike النارِfire فيin الحرِّheat
والسمرُ مثلُ النارِ في الحرِّ
Fair-skinned women are cold as snow,
The fair ones are like snow, so cold,
And dark-skinned women are like fire in their heat.
While the dark ones are like fire when hot.

May my father be her ransom! And I have a dark-skinned woman who has already donned
By my father! A dark girl has clothed herself
The robe of modesty, and her cheek is my ember.
In the garment of modesty, though her cheek is ember-red.
