ساكنيO dwellers of مصرَEgypt أينَwhere ذاكَthat التأنِّيdeliberation
ساكني مصرَ أينَ ذاكَ التأنِّي
والتأبِّيand refusal ومالكمْand you have no عنهُfor abandoning it عذرُexcuse
والتأبِّي ومالكمْ عنهُ عذرُ
O dwellers of Egypt, where is that deliberation
and refusal? You have no excuse for abandoning them.
يخسرُloses الشخصُa person مالَهُhis wealth ويقاسيand endures
يخسرُ الشخصُ مالَهُ ويقاسي
تعبَthe toil of الدهرِa lifetime والولايةُwhile the governorship شهرُa month
تعبَ الدهرِ والولايةُ شهرُ
A person loses his wealth and endures
a lifetime’s toil, while the governorship lasts a month.
