جنَّةَthe Garden of المأوىRefuge فللهِso to God belongs العجبْthe wonder
Indeed, the valley of al-Bab has reminded me
of the Garden of Refuge—what a wonder, by God!
فيهin it دوحٌspreading trees تحجبُveil الشمسَthe sun إذاwhen
مالَswayed قالَsaid للصَباto the east wind جزْpass بأدبْwith courtesy
There are spreading trees that veil the sun; when
they sway, they tell the east wind, “Pass courteously.”
فهْيfor she تغويbeguiles عذبَthe tender shoots of البانِthe bān tree أماdoes she not
تعذبُsweetens الغيَّwaywardness كماjust as تغويbeguiles العذبْthe tender shoots
For she beguiles the tender bān shoots; does she not
sweeten waywardness as she beguiles the shoots?

تطربُenrapture الحيَّthe living كماjust as تحييrevive الطربْrapture
Its birds are eloquent in their song;
they enrapture the living as they bring rapture to life.

Its meadow smiles at the tears shed
by clouds, in whose train fragrance trailed.
فيهِin it روضاتٌgardens أناI صبٌّpassionately in love بهاwith them
مثلماjust as أصبحَhas become فيهاwithin them الماءُthe water صبْpoured out
In it are gardens with which I am enamored,
just as water has been poured out within them.

When its river faces the sun, you see
white silver in a river of gold.
