لا أرتضي بالأخسِّ

Enough of poetry for me—enough!

Enough of poetry, enough

I do not settle for the basest.

I will not settle for the most trivial

أكونُ عفاً بريئاً

أكونُ عفاً بريئاً

وما أبرِّئُ نفسي

وما أبرِّئُ نفسي

I am chaste and innocent,

I will be chaste and innocent

And I do not declare myself blameless.

Yet I do not absolve myself
