ومغنٍّand a singer إنْif شداكُمhe sings to you منشداchanting
ومغنٍّ إنْ شداكُم منشدا
أعذبَhe makes sweet الغيَّwaywardness وأغوىand leads astray العذباthe sweet
أعذبَ الغيَّ وأغوى العذبا
And a singer—if he sings to you, chanting—
Makes waywardness sweet and leads the sweet astray,
كالصَّباlike the east wind هبَّتْit blew بأغصانِthrough the boughs of الصِّباyouth
كالصَّبا هبَّتْ بأغصانِ الصِّبا
تطربُit enraptures الحيَّthe living وتحييand brings to life الطربَاrapture
تطربُ الحيَّ وتحيي الطربَا
Like the east wind blowing through the boughs of youth,
Enrapturing the living and bringing rapture to life.
