لوفاةِ الكمالِ في العجمِ وهنٌ

فلقدْ أكثروا عليهِ التعازي

فلقدْ أكثروا عليهِ التعازي

Al-Kamāl’s death has left the Persians enfeebled;

Al-Kamal’s death has brought weakness among the non-Arabs;

so profuse have been their condolences for him.

For they have offered many condolences for him.

قلْ لهمْ لوْ يكونُ فيكمْ جوادٌ

قلْ لهمْ لوْ يكونُ فيكمْ جوادٌ

كانَ في غُنْيةٍ عنِ المهمازي

كانَ في غُنْيةٍ عنِ المهمازي

Tell them: had there been among you a jawād—a generous man, a noble steed—

Tell them: if there were a noble steed among you,

he would have had no need of spurs.

It would have no need of the spur.
