لا تقصدِ القاضي إذا أدبرَتْ
دنياكَyour worldly fortune واسألْand ask مِنْfrom جوادٍa generous man كريمْnoble
دنياكَ واسألْ مِنْ جوادٍ كريمْ
Do not seek out the judge when it turns its back—
Do not seek the judge when your fortunes flee,
your worldly fortune—and ask a generous, noble man.
But ask a generous man of noble breed,
كيفhow تُرجّيyou hope for الرزقَsustenance مِنْfrom عندِwith مَنْone who
كيف تُرجّي الرزقَ مِنْ عندِ مَنْ
يُفتيissues a legal ruling بأنَّto the effect that الفلسَthe copper coin مالٌwealth عظيمْgreat
يُفتي بأنَّ الفلسَ مالٌ عظيمْ
