ياO ساكنيinhabitants of مصرَEgypt ماnot عَهِدْناwe have known
يا ساكني مصرَ ما عَهِدْنا
منكمfrom you سوىother than رحمةٍmercy وأُلْفَهْand affection
منكم سوى رحمةٍ وأُلْفَهْ
O inhabitants of Egypt, we have not known
from you anything but mercy and affection.
فكيفَso how ولَّيتُمyou appointed عليناover us
فكيفَ ولَّيتُم علينا
مَنْone لاnot تصحُّis valid الصلاةُprayer خلفَهْbehind him
مَنْ لا تصحُّ الصلاةُ خلفَهْ
So how have you appointed over us
one behind whom prayer is not valid?
