He now assails the eloquent with a lisp—
He now assails the eloquent with a lisp,

Feeble and disgraced, yet deemed great.
عجباًhow astonishing! لهمْat them كيفَhow ارتضَوْهُthey accepted him لمثلناfor the likes of us
عجباً لهمْ كيفَ ارتضَوْهُ لمثلنا
حَكَماًas a judge أماdid … not? سمعوهُthey heard him إذwhen يتكلَّمْhe speaks
حَكَماً أما سمعوهُ إذ يتكلَّمْ
How strange of them! How could they accept him over men like us
How strange of them! How could they accept him for the likes of us

As a judge—did they not hear him when he speaks?
