بموتِ عبّود ابنِ جبرٍ

قَدْ أيس القلبُ منْ أبيهِ

قَدْ أيس القلبُ منْ أبيهِ

At the death of ʿAbbūd ibn Jabr,

the heart has indeed despaired of his father.

هلْ قبرُهُ الروضُ أو سماءٌ

هلْ قبرُهُ الروضُ أو سماءٌ

فالغصنُ والبدرُ حلَّ فيهِ

فالغصنُ والبدرُ حلَّ فيهِ

Is his grave a garden or a sky?

For the branch and the full moon have settled within it.
