ألا قلْ لسيدنا الشاعرِ
ولاand do not تخشَfear منْof طبعهِhis nature النافرِunruly
ولا تخشَ منْ طبعهِ النافرِ
Come, say to our master, the poet,
O say to our master the poet
and do not fear his unruly nature:
And fear not his repugnant nature
أمنis it from? شبهةٍa doubtful union أنتَyou أمor منfrom زناfornication
أمن شبهةٍ أنتَ أم من زنا
فماfor ... not أنتَyou بالنادرa rare one (emphatic) النادرِrare
فما أنتَ بالنادر النادرِ
Are you born of a doubtful union, or of fornication?
Art thou of doubt or of fornication
For you are not so very rare.
For thou art not the rare jewel
