قرطُهاher earring خافقٌfluttering وقلبيَand my heart أيضاًtoo
قرطُها خافقٌ وقلبيَ أيضاً
خافقٌfluttering مِنْfrom أليمِpainful صدٍّrejection وبَيْنِand parting
خافقٌ مِنْ أليمِ صدٍّ وبَيْنِ
Her earring flutters, and my heart, too,
Flutters from the pain of rejection and parting.
فاعذروهاso excuse her فيfor العجبِconceit فَهْيَfor she is فتاةٌa maiden
فاعذروها في العجبِ فَهْيَ فتاةٌ
أصبحَتْshe has come to be وَهْيَwhile she تملكُpossesses الخافقَيْنِthe two fluttering ones (also: East and West)
أصبحَتْ وَهْيَ تملكُ الخافقَيْنِ
So excuse her conceit, for she is a maiden
Who now possesses the two fluttering ones.
