خَضِرُverdure الحياةِof life لبعدِكُمْbecause of your absence بالياسِwith despair
My eye has found the dwellings strange, and stricken
is life's verdure with despair at your absence.
وإذاand when تأملتُI contemplated البقاعَthe places وجدتُهاI found them
كالناسِlike people فيin سعدٍgood fortune وفيand in إتعاسِmisfortune
And when I contemplate the places, I find them
like people, in good fortune and in misfortune.
فالدارُfor the home غيرُother than الدارِthe home بعدَafter رحيلِكمyour departure
والناسُand the people واحرباهُalas for my loss! غيرُother than الناسِthe people
For home is no longer home after your departure,
and people—alas for my loss!—are no longer the same people.
