ياO قومَناour people إنَّindeed الفسادَcorruption قدْhas غلَبْprevailed
يا قومَنا إنَّ الفسادَ قدْ غلَبْ
وخافتِand feared الأعيانُthe notables سوءَthe evil of المنقلبْthe outcome
وخافتِ الأعيانُ سوءَ المنقلبْ
O our people, corruption has indeed prevailed,
O people, corruption has overcome
And the notables have feared an evil end.
And the nobles fear an evil turn of fate
ومَنْand whoever نشأَgrew up بينamong الحميرthe donkeys والجلبْand market livestock
ومَنْ نشأَ بين الحمير والجلبْ
كيفَhow يكونُhe is قاضياًa judge علىover حلبْAleppo
كيفَ يكونُ قاضياً على حلبْ
And whoever grew up among donkeys and market livestock—
One raised among donkeys and dogs
