    فإنْ فعلْتَ فثقْ بالعارِ والنارِ

    If you befriend one who praises beardless youths, beware;

for if you do, be certain of disgrace and hellfire.

A commodity none but its seller has bought—

how vile the commodity, the buyer, and the seller!

O people, sodomy has become notorious today,

and widespread, widely known, with no condemnation.

A sin through which nations before us perished,

and the Throne trembles at it with a shudder of horror.

The Gardens of Eden have been forbidden to the sodomite.

God is greatest! How disobedient he is to the Creator!

I seek God's forgiveness for earlier verse of mine

about beardless youths; my aim was to promote my poems.

But that is talk, not followed by

lewdness—and far be it from me to do the deeds of evildoers:

a people who, when they wage war, tighten their loincloths

to keep women out, even if the women spend the night ritually pure.
