By your honor, disregard what the hater says.

I have accepted death for their sake, if they approve.

They are the light of my eye and the blackness of my pupil.

So if I forget them, whom could I take in their place?

They departed, and patience departed from its roots.

And since they struck camp, they have seized the companion of my sleeplessness.

How many a longing watcher they left behind at Tuwayliʿ!

And at Ramah, how many healthy people they made ill!

I have accepted that I should die for love of them,

Of grief—so let no meddler interfere.
