لقدindeed عاشَhe lived دهراًfor an age يخدمُserving العلمَlearning جهدَهُwith all his effort
لقد عاشَ دهراً يخدمُ العلمَ جهدَهُ
وكانَand he was قليلَhaving few المثلٍِequals فيin العلمِlearning والودِand affection
وكانَ قليلَ المثلٍِ في العلمِ والودِ
Indeed, he lived for an age, serving learning with all his strength.
He lived an age serving knowledge with his effort
And he had few equals in learning and affection.
And was peerless in knowledge and affection
فلماbut when تولىhe assumed الحكمَjudicial office ماnot عاشَhe lived طائلاًlong
فلما تولى الحكمَ ما عاشَ طائلاً
فماso not هُنئَwas gladdened ابنُIbn (son of) المجدِal-Majd واللهِby God بالمجدِby glory
فما هُنئَ ابنُ المجدِ واللهِ بالمجدِ

But when he assumed power, he lived not long
