وبي فقيرٌ عملَتْ

عينيَّ فيه ما جرى

عينيَّ فيه ما جرى

And I am smitten with a poor man;

my eyes have brought about all that happened with him.

إنْ قلتُ قدْ سلَبْتَني

يقول شغَلَ الفقرا

يقول شغَلَ الفقرا

If I say, “You have robbed me,”

he says, “That is the trade of the poor.”
