وعاجلَهُand overtook him early العذارُfacial down بخدِّهِon his cheek
وعاجلَهُ العذارُ بخدِّهِ
فزادَso he grew بهِwith it حسناًin beauty فَعيلَso was exhausted بهِbecause of him الصبرُpatience
فزادَ بهِ حسناً فَعيلَ بهِ الصبرُ
And facial down came early to his cheek,
So he grew more beautiful with it, and patience failed because of him.
تردىhe donned ثيابَthe garments of الموتِdeath حمراًred فماand not أتىcame
تردى ثيابَ الموتِ حمراً فما أتى
لهاupon them الليلُthe night إلاexcept وَهْيَwhile they were منْof سندسٍfine silk خضرُgreen
لها الليلُ إلا وَهْيَ منْ سندسٍ خضرُ
He donned death’s garments, red; but by the time
Night came upon them, they were green, of fine silk.
