إنَّماnothing but الدنياworldly life عناءٌtoil وذلٌّand humiliation
إنَّما الدنيا عناءٌ وذلٌّ
ساءَتِare wretched الأحوالُcircumstances فيin حالتيهاboth its states
ساءَتِ الأحوالُ في حالتيها
Worldly life is nothing but toil and humiliation.
The life of this world is but toil and distress
Circumstances are wretched in both its states.
Its conditions ever change and regress
إنْif طلبناهاwe seek it طلبْناwe seek خيالاًan illusion
إنْ طلبناها طلبْنا خيالاً
أوor تركناهاwe abandon it اضْطررْناwe are compelled إليهاto it
أو تركناها اضْطررْنا إليها
If we seek it, we seek an illusion.
If we seek it we seek but fantasy
Or if we abandon it, we are compelled to turn to it.
If we leave it we're forced to necessity
