ياO زينةَadornment الأسواقِthe markets حتىuntil متىwhen
يا زينةَ الأسواقِ حتى متى
How many kings have come, and how many deputies!
How many rulers have come and gone, how many deputies
O adornment of the markets, how much longer?
O adornment of the markets! For how long
قدindeed كررواthey repeated الزينةَthe adornment حتىeven اللحىthe beards
قد كرروا الزينةَ حتى اللحى
ماnot بقيتْremained تلحقُmanage in time أنْto تنبتاgrow
ما بقيتْ تلحقُ أنْ تنبتا
They have repeated the adornment so often that even the beards
Have they worn you as ornament, even on their beards,
no longer have time to grow.
You no longer have enough left in you to sprout
