اسودَّتِ الشهباءُ في

عينيَّ مِنْ رممٍ وغشِ

Gray Aleppo turned black in

Al-Shahbāʾ has turned black in

my eyes, from mouldering remains and fraud;

my eyes, from decayed remains and deceit.

كادت بنو نعشٍ بها
