وفي بغدادَ أقوامٌ كرامٌ

And in Baghdad there are generous folk,

In Baghdad there are generous people,

But only with greetings, without food.

فما زادوا الصديقَ على سلامٍ

لهذا سُمِّيَتْ دارَ السلامِ

لهذا سُمِّيَتْ دارَ السلامِ

So they gave a friend no more than a greeting;

So they did not increase upon the friend anything but greetings,

For this it was called the Abode of Peace.
