وآجرْتُand I rented out مجدَMajd (glory) الدينِal-Din (of the faith) داريmy house فلمْand did not يزلْcease
وآجرْتُ مجدَ الدينِ داري فلمْ يزلْ
يكلِّفنيhe requires me إصلاحَهاrepairing it وأماطلُand I stall
يكلِّفني إصلاحَها وأماطلُ
And I rented my house to Majd al-Din, and he keeps
I promised glory I'd rebuild my home, yet still
requiring me to repair it, while I put him off.
He charges me to fix it, and I stall,
لقدindeed هُنتُI became lowly حتىuntil صرْتُI became للمجدِfor Majd (glory) فاعلاًa laborer
لقد هُنتُ حتى صرْتُ للمجدِ فاعلاً
ألاAh! فيin سبيلthe cause of المجدِglory ماwhat أناI فاعلُam doing
ألا في سبيل المجدِ ما أنا فاعلُ
I have sunk so low that I have become a laborer for Majd;
For long I've hesitated till for glory's sake
Ah, all that I do is for the sake of glory!
I am resolved: I'll do what'er I'm called.
