وبي أغيدٌ من وجهِهِ البدرُ خائفُ

على نفسهِ والنجمُ في الغربِ مائلُ

And I am smitten with a graceful youth: his face makes the full moon fear

The full moon's face outshines me, though anxious

for itself, while the star inclines in the west.

For itself, while the star in the west grows dim.

فلو رامَ قسٌ وصفَ باقِل خدِّهِ

لعيَّرَ قسَّاً بالفهاهةِ باقلُ

Were Quss to attempt to describe the down sprouting on his cheek,

If a harsh critic tried to describe the least

Baqil would surely mock Quss for his inarticulateness.

Of his cheeks, he'd be mocked for his foolish attempt.
