وكمْand how often سهرتْstayed awake عينيmy eye عليكمْon your account ونمتمُwhile you slept
وكمْ سهرتْ عيني عليكمْ ونمتمُ
ورمتُand I sought بكمْthrough you عزِّيmy honor فصادفتُand then I encountered زلّتيmy stumble
ورمتُ بكمْ عزِّي فصادفتُ زلّتي
And how often my eye stayed wakeful for you, while you slept!
How often my eyes were sleepless because of you, while you slept,
And I sought my honor through you, but met with my downfall.
And I fancied with you my glory, but stumbled in my fancy.
فذكَّرْتُso I reminded نفسيmyself رقتيmy tenderness وجفاكمand your coldness
فذكَّرْتُ نفسي رقتي وجفاكم
وسلَّيْتُهاand I consoled it عنْaway from حبِّكمlove for you فتسلَّتِso it found solace
وسلَّيْتُها عنْ حبِّكم فتسلَّتِ
So I reminded myself of my tenderness and your coldness,
So I admonished myself for my tenderness and your disdain,
And I soothed it free of love for you, and it found solace.
And consoled it with renouncing the love of you and so it was consoled.
