ولَوْ ولَّوا قليلَ الفقهِ فيهِ

مداراةٌ ودينٌ ما جزعْنا

And had they appointed someone of little legal learning, in whom

If only they had a little understanding

There were tact and piety, we would not have been distressed.

It would be mere diplomacy and faith, we wouldn't despair

وكان يهونُ ما نلقى ولكنْ

وكان يهونُ ما نلقى ولكنْ

تعالَوا فانظروا مع مَنْ وقعنا

تعالَوا فانظروا مع مَنْ وقعنا

And what we endure would have been easier to bear—but

And what we face would be easier, but

Come, then see whom we have fallen in with!

Come and see with whom we have collided
