وفازَand he won المؤيَّدُal-Mu'ayyad فيin يومِهِhis day
وفازَ المؤيَّدُ في يومِهِ
بماwith what كانَhe was يرجوهُhoping for it فيin أمسِهِhis yesterday
بما كانَ يرجوهُ في أمسِهِ
And al-Mu'ayyad won today
The supported one won on his day
what he had hoped for yesterday.
What he had hoped for the day before
وكمْand how often قدْindeed شكاhe complained of الحيفَinjustice منْfrom دهرِهِhis age
وكمْ قدْ شكا الحيفَ منْ دهرِهِ
فأنصفَهُso it did him justice الدهرُTime منْagainst نفسِهِitself
فأنصفَهُ الدهرُ منْ نفسِهِ
And how often he had complained of his age's injustice!
And how much he complained of time's injustice
So Time gave him justice against itself.
Yet time made up for it through itself
