تطربُ الحيَّ وتحيي الطربا
And a maiden who, when she sings or recites verse,
And a girl, if she sang or recited poetry
Enraptures the tribe and brings rapture to life,
She brings delight to the living, and life to delight

يعذبُ الغيَّ ويغوي العذبا
Like a breeze that stirred the branches of the sand dune,
Like a breeze shaking the branches of nqā[1]
Makes waywardness sweet and leads the sweet one astray.
Tormenting the absent, and tempting the present
