وقاضياً ماضياً في الشر مجتنياً
للخيرof goodness منamong سيئاتِmisfortunes الدهرِtime محسوباreckoned
للخير من سيئاتِ الدهرِ محسوبا
And a judge, pressing onward in evil, reaping
A judge, gone by, immersed in evil
goodness, reckoned among the misfortunes of time.
Yet counted for good amid the ills of time
يرىhe deems إباحةَpermissibility أعراضٍhonor and reputations محرَّمةٍinviolable
يرى إباحةَ أعراضٍ محرَّمةٍ
متىwhen نرىshall we see شكلَهُhis form المكروهَloathsome مندوباmourned
متى نرى شكلَهُ المكروهَ مندوبا
He deems inviolable honor lawful to violate;
Deeming permitted what sacred law forbids
when shall we see his loathsome form mourned?
When shall we see his hated form made laudable?
