Ah, many a handsome cook speaks to me,
Alas! Many a fine cook has said to me,
his hands and eyes uttering words beyond dispute:
His hands and eyes telling a familiar tale:
لناours are الجَفَناتُlarge serving bowls الغرُّbright white يلمعْنَgleam بالضُّحىin the morning light
لنا الجَفَناتُ الغرُّ يلمعْنَ بالضُّحى
وأسيافُناand our swords يقطرْنَdrip مِنْfrom نجدةٍvalor دماblood
وأسيافُنا يقطرْنَ مِنْ نجدةٍ دما
“Ours are the bright white bowls that gleam in the morning light,
We have the heavy eyelids that gleam in the morning light,
and our swords drip blood out of valor.”
And our swords drip with blood from Najd.
