يعاتِبُhe reproaches فيover لفظةٍa word سهلةٍsimple
يعاتِبُ في لفظةٍ سهلةٍ
وقدْand indeed قالَhe has said عنِّيabout me أمثالَهاthings like it
وقدْ قالَ عنِّي أمثالَها
He reproaches me over a simple word,
He reproaches me for an easy word,
Yet he has said similar words about me.
Yet he has said the same about me.
وكمand how often بلَّغونيthey relayed to me أقاويلَهُhis remarks
وكم بلَّغوني أقاويلَهُ
ويحلفُand he swears باللهِby God ماnot قالهاhe said them
ويحلفُ باللهِ ما قالها
And how often they have relayed his remarks to me,
How much of his sayings have they conveyed to me!
Yet he swears by God he did not say them.

ولوand if قلتُI said فيin حقهِhis regard بعضَهاsome of them
ولو قلتُ في حقهِ بعضَها
لزلزلتِwould be shaken الأرضُthe earth زلزالهاits earthquake
لزلزلتِ الأرضُ زلزالها
And if I said some of them about him,
If I said about him a fraction of what he said,
The earth would be shaken with its earthquake.
The earth would shake with a great quake.
