أنكرتْ شيبي فصدَّتْ ونأتْ
قلتُI said إنَّindeed المالَwealth للشيبِfor gray hair دواa cure
قلتُ إنَّ المالَ للشيبِ دوا
She disapproved of my gray hair, so she turned away and withdrew.
She denied my old age so I was repelled
I said, “Indeed, wealth is a cure for gray hair.”
I said: Money is a remedy for old age
قالتِshe said اسكتْbe quiet إنماnothing but الشيبُgray hair عمىblindness
قالتِ اسكتْ إنما الشيبُ عمى
فبياضُfor the whiteness العينِof the eye والشعرِand of the hair سواalike
فبياضُ العينِ والشعرِ سوا
She said, “Be quiet! Gray hair is nothing but blindness,
She said: Hush! Old age is but blindness
for whiteness of the eye and of the hair are alike.”
The whiteness of hair and sight are equal
