قالَsaid زنارُgirdle خصرِهِhis waist
قالَ زنارُ خصرِهِ
كمْhow often كذاlike this ترجعُyou turn back البصرْthe gaze
كمْ كذا ترجعُ البصرْ
The girdle around his waist said:
“How often will you turn your gaze back like this?”
قلتُI said لاdo not تنفردْhave sole possession بهِof it
قلتُ لا تنفردْ بهِ
لكَyours شدٌّbinding وليand mine نظرْgazing
لكَ شدٌّ ولي نظرْ
I said, “Do not have it all to yourself;
Yours is the binding, and mine the gazing.”
