O Lord, by the guiding Prophet, the Chosen One,
O Lord, by the Guide, the chosen Prophet,

Spare Islam by sheathing the swords of pestilence.

O Lord, its grievous torment is lamented
O Lord, we complain of its painful torment to none
to none but You, for it has struck fear and terror.
But You, for it has brought fear and terror.

How many a land has it entered, scattering the unity of those
How often it has struck a town, scattering those
within it, until they find no escape from it.
Within it, who find no escape from it.

في العالمينَ فمنْ يجيرُ المذنبا
If none may place his hope in You except the virtuous,
If none but a doer of good hopes in You
then who in all creation will shelter the sinner?
In all the worlds, who then will shelter the sinner?

His friends shun him and are fearful
of coming near; the companions of his youth forsake him.
Of being near him; his childhood companions forsake him.

So he is alone, though his family are many;
a thing that has confounded minds and turned hair gray.
This is what has bewildered minds and turned hair gray.
