اكتمِ الغيظَ إنْ هُجيتَ وإلا

اكتمِ الغيظَ إنْ هُجيتَ وإلا

زادَ هاجيكَ في الهجاءِ وقبَّحْ

زادَ هاجيكَ في الهجاءِ وقبَّحْ

Conceal your anger if you are satirized; otherwise,

your satirist will intensify his satire and vilify you.

وتجلَّدْ لزورِ هجوٍ ومدحٍ

وتجلَّدْ لزورِ هجوٍ ومدحٍ

أو ليسَ الملوكُ تُهجى وتُمدحْ

أو ليسَ الملوكُ تُهجى وتُمدحْ

And bear up under falsehood in satire and praise;

are not kings satirized and praised?
