يقبِّلُkisses الأرضَthe earth مشتاقٌa longing man يحاولُtries أنْto
يقبِّلُ الأرضَ مشتاقٌ يحاولُ أنْ
يزورَكمvisit you وصروفُand the vicissitudes الدهرِof time تمنعُهُprevent him
يزورَكم وصروفُ الدهرِ تمنعُهُ
A longing man kisses the earth, trying to
Longingly he kisses the ground, trying
visit you, but the vicissitudes of time prevent him.
To visit you though fate prevents him
لهُhe has ابتسامٌa smile لكونِbecause of being القلبِthe heart عندكمُwith you
لهُ ابتسامٌ لكونِ القلبِ عندكمُ
لكنْbut تسيلُflow لبُعْدِbecause of the distance of الجسمِthe body أدمعُهُhis tears
لكنْ تسيلُ لبُعْدِ الجسمِ أدمعُهُ
He smiles because his heart is with you,
His heart smiles, being with you
but his tears flow because his body is far away.
Yet his body weeps at the distance
وكلماand whenever سمعhears المملوكُthe bondservant أنكمُthat you are
وكلما سمع المملوكُ أنكمُ
فيin نعْمةٍprosperity فهْوthen it يرضيهpleases him ويقنعُهُand satisfies him
في نعْمةٍ فهْو يرضيه ويقنعُهُ
And whenever the bondservant hears that you are
Whenever the slave hears you’re well
in prosperity, that pleases him and makes him content.
He is content though far away
