سلامٌa greeting كأنفاسِlike the breaths of النسائمِthe breezes سحرةًbefore dawn
سلامٌ كأنفاسِ النسائمِ سحرةً
علىto علمِʿAlam الدينِal-Dīn (the faith) المبادئِthe initiator بالودِّwith affection
على علمِ الدينِ المبادئِ بالودِّ
A greeting like the breaths of breezes before dawn,
Greetings like the breaths of gentle winds in the early dawn
To ʿAlam al-Dīn, who is first to offer affection.
Upon the principles of religion and knowledge, with affection
لئنْeven if كانتِare الأعلامُthe luminaries فيناamong us كثيرةًmany
لئنْ كانتِ الأعلامُ فينا كثيرةً
خصصتُI singled out بودِّيwith my affection حَضْرةَHis Eminence العلمِthe luminary الفردِthe peerless
خصصتُ بودِّي حَضْرةَ العلمِ الفردِ
Though the luminaries among us are many,
If there are many flags among us
I have singled out His Eminence, the peerless luminary, for my affection.
I reserve my affection for the presence of unique knowledge
