صديقٌa friend ليof mine بُليَwas afflicted بحكيمِwith a physician سوءٍevil
صديقٌ لي بُليَ بحكيمِ سوءٍ
كذاlikewise السلعوسُal-Salʿūs يُبلىis afflicted بالشجاعيwith al-Shujāʿī
كذا السلعوسُ يُبلى بالشجاعي
A friend of mine was afflicted with a bad physician,
A friend of mine is worn by an unwise talker
just as al-Salʿūs is afflicted with al-Shujāʿī.
As the nightingale is worn by the brave warrior
فجسَّthen he felt his pulse وقالَand he said حُمَّىfever معْwith صداعٍa headache
فجسَّ وقالَ حُمَّى معْ صداعٍ
فقلناso we said ياO حكيمُphysician بلاwithout صداعِa headache
فقلنا يا حكيمُ بلا صداعِ
He felt his pulse and said, “Fever with a headache.”
He exaggerated and said "fever with headache"
So we said, “Doctor, spare us the headache!”
We said, "Oh unwise one, without headache"
