ودَّعْتُها ويدي اليمينُ لأدمعي
ويديand my hand اليسارُthe left لضمَّةٍfor a hug وعناقِand an embrace
ويدي اليسارُ لضمَّةٍ وعناقِ
I bade her farewell—my right hand given to my tears,
I bade her farewell—my right hand for my tears,
my left to your embrace and mine.
and my left hand for a hug and an embrace.

يومُthe day الوداعِof farewell فضيحةُthe scandal of العشّاقِlovers
يومُ الوداعِ فضيحةُ العشّاقِ
She said, “Do you not fear the scandal?” I said, “No—
She said, “Do you not fear scandal?” I said, “No—
the day of farewell is the lovers’ scandal.”
the day of farewell is the scandal of lovers.”
