ذرَّ كافورَ ثلجِهِ الجوُّ في الأر

ضِ فأضحى مزاجُها كافورا

The sky scattered the camphor of its snow upon the earth,

The air scattered its camphor snow on earth

so its substance became camphor.

So its composition became camphor

وتلاه ويْلاه حبُّ غمامٍ

وتلاه ويْلاه حبُّ غمامٍ

فحسبناهُ لؤلؤاً منثورا

فحسبناهُ لؤلؤاً منثورا

And grains from a cloud followed it—alas!—

Followed by the love of a cloud's lament

so we took them for scattered pearls.
