فهندُthen Hind ردتنيrejected me بعيبينِfor two flaws
فهندُ ردتني بعيبينِ
Whoever was rejected for just one fault—
If one is rejected for just one flaw,
Hind rejected me for two:
then Hind rejected me for two.
الرأسُthe head واللحيةُand the beard شاباboth turned gray معاًtogether
الرأسُ واللحيةُ شابا معاً
عاقبنيpunished me الدهرُtime بشيبينِwith two grayings
عاقبني الدهرُ بشيبينِ
my head and beard both turned gray;

Time punished me with a double graying.
