إذْ كنتَ محبوباً إلى محبوبي
Are you leaving me while I am still a child? You have turned my temples gray—
O you who left me as a child, you turned the partings of my hair gray,
when I was still dear to my beloved.
For you were dear to my beloved.
فجرَتْso flowed أنابيبُtubular shafts الدموعِof tears عوالياًlofty lances
فجرَتْ أنابيبُ الدموعِ عوالياً
كالرمحِlike a spear أنبوباًa shaft-segment علىupon أنبوبِa shaft-segment
كالرمحِ أنبوباً على أنبوبِ
Then the channels of tears burst forth in towering streams,
So the shafts of tears flowed like lofty lances,
like a spear, one hollow shaft-section upon another.
