الروضُthe garden تندبُyou mourn أمor سمتَهُhis bearing
الروضُ تندبُ أم سمتَهُ
أمْor عقلَهُhis intellect الوافرَabundant أمْor علمَهْhis knowledge
أمْ عقلَهُ الوافرَ أمْ علمَهْ
Do you mourn the garden, or his bearing,
Does the garden mourn his handsome form,
Or his abundant intellect, or his knowledge?
Or his abundant sense and wisdom?
فاقَsurpassed علىabove الأقرانِthe peers فيin جدِّهِhis earnestness
فاقَ على الأقرانِ في جدِّهِ
فمنْso whoever رآهُsaw him خالَهُthought him عمَّهْhis paternal uncle
فمنْ رآهُ خالَهُ عمَّهْ
He surpassed his peers in earnestness;
He surpassed his peers in diligence,
So whoever saw him took him for his paternal uncle.
So all who saw him thought him their own kin.
