باللهِby God ياO سائقَdriver الجمالِthe camels
رِفقاًgently فقلبيfor my heart بسوءِin a wretched حالِstate
By God, O driver of the camels,
O camel driver, gently,
Be gentle, for my heart is in a wretched state.
for my heart is downcast.
ليI have بينكمamong you مرخصٌone who cheapens لدمعيof my tears
وَهْوَand he عزيزٌdear عليَّto me غاليprecious
Among you is one who cheapens my tears,
Among you is one whose tears are precious to me,
Yet he is dear to me, precious.
and very dear.
ثمَّthen خلعْتُI cast off بهfor him عذاريmy bridle (restraint)
لماwhen غداbecame لابسَclad in الجمالِbeauty
Then, for him, I cast off my bridle,
Then I removed my finery,
When he became clad in beauty.
when he donned his camel bags,
قدْindeed كانwas شمليmy union بهwith him نظيماًwell-knit
ففرَّقَتْthen separated بينناbetween us اللياليthe nights
My union with him had been well-knit,
for my company with him was perfect,
Then the nights parted us.
but the nights have parted us.
