أصلحَ اللهُ دمشقاً

وحماها عَنْ مسبَّهْ

May God set Damascus right

May God restore Damascus

And protect her from reproach.

And protect it from what harms it

نفسُها خسَّتْ إلى أنْ

تقتلَ الناسَ بحبَّهْ

Her soul has grown so base

Its soul has debased itself

That she kills people with a pustule.
