خيرِ البلادِ ومِنْ أعزِّ حصونِها

خيرِ البلادِ ومِنْ أعزِّ حصونِها

O plague, Hama is indeed among

O plague, you have reached the protectors

the finest lands, and among their mightiest strongholds.

Of the best of lands and its strongest fortresses

لا كنتَ حينَ شَمَمْتَها فسمَمْتَها

لا كنتَ حينَ شَمَمْتَها فسمَمْتَها

ولثمْتَ فاها آخذاً بقرونها

ولثمْتَ فاها آخذاً بقرونها

Would that you had never existed when you smelled her, then poisoned her,

You were not so bold when you sensed them at first

and kissed her mouth, seizing her by her tresses.

And took hold of them, grasping their horns
