وعاذلةٍ رأتْ محبوبَ قلبي

وعاذلةٍ رأتْ محبوبَ قلبي

فكانَ لها بطلعتِهِ افتنانْ

فكانَ لها بطلعتِهِ افتنانْ

And a reproachful woman saw my heart's beloved;

When my beloved appeared to the blamer

So she was enthralled by his countenance.

His looks enchanted her

وجاءتْ وَهْيَ سكرى منْ هواهُ

وجاءتْ وَهْيَ سكرى منْ هواهُ

وقالتْ ليسَ كالخبَرِ العيانْ

وقالتْ ليسَ كالخبَرِ العيانْ

And she came, drunk with love for him,

She came to me intoxicated with passion for him

And said, "Seeing is not like hearing."

And said: news is not like seeing with one's own eyes
